Roaming charges in flight mode

I am using the Wi-Fi connection in the hotel in cape Verdi with my phone in flight mode, however Facebook keeps warning me i will receive data charges how is that possible if I'm in flight mode?

You can't be charged if you are in flight mode as there is no network connection.

@Geddy You won't be charged in flight mode, but just to make doubly sure, switch off your mobile data completely in your settings.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

Thanks for the quick resonces my mobile data has been off since I arrived and I switched to flight mode as soon as I saw the warnings about data charges on my facebook app which was about 2 days into the holiday thanks
