Replace number

I’ve a question that I don’t know if it’s possible. I have a number in my account that I pay for my son, he got his own contract and doesn’t use the new sim. The question is, is it possible for the number to be moved to replace his ‘temporary’ number and the contract on my account get a new number and continue to use?

You can move the number you pay for to your son's contract, but that stops your contract.

Why would he get his own contract but then not use it?

One option would be for you to swap sims - so he keeps the number he had, and you get the new one he doesn't want?

So essentially he wanted the new iPhone 15 pro max and turned 18 so got his own contract. He’s currently using the sim but his is spare at the minute and with eventually moving his number from me to his account I don’t want to give his ‘own’ number to someone to use when it will eventually go dead
