Hi. I'm sure I used to get texts sent to my UK O2 number while in Europe Zone (specifically Guernsey). But for a month or so, I notice that's no longer the case. I checked my settings and roaming was turned off. Does roaming apply to receiving texts as well as consuming data? Is there a way to receive texts but not consume mobile data (to avoid £££)? Thanks

Texts are always free to receive and sms do not need data.
You will need data for iMessage or RCS though.

Thanks.
So it looks like some form of config issue at network level. The tips say "If the problem persists, we'd advise contacting the 3rd party responsible for sending the codes for checks on their end." Which is where I started this saga a couple of hours ago! O2 - over to you.
(PS the manual data roaming switch on/off and the manual network connection thing seems to fix.)

Accessing foreign networks is called roaming - having coverage abroad enables the ability to call, text & use mobile data.
It's not a common expression, but just like data-roaming - you can also text-roam or voice-call-roam.
Receiving texts is free anywhere.
