Receiving sms abroad

Hello,
With my spanish phone I never have to, but now that I have an UK phone people told me that you normally pay also for receiving sms when your are abroad.

Is it really that the normal precedure?

No you are not charged for receiving texts anywhere overseas.

You pay 11p, unless you have inclusive roaming texts.
The person sending to you pays there normal rate to text you.
