Question about paying off contract early

Hello,

Is it at all possible I can pay off my contract early but NOT upgrade my phone or my plan? I want to keep my phone but just pay O2 what is owed, but all at once instead of over the remainer of the 24 months.

 

The only issue is that when I got this phone, I was 17 (but in full time employment), so my mum signed up for the contract in her name.

 

However, I'm now 18 and I've started a new job recently that pays quite a bit more than my last, and whilst I have money I want to clear all my contracts and debts.

 

Is there any easy way of doing this WITHOUT using the O2 Refresh thing, and preferably without getting my mum to ring up and ask the helpdesk.

Yes. Log into your my o2 and pay it through there.

You could pay off the contract but the way o2 work you would carry on paying the monthly charge if you wanted to keep your service running.

Are you looking to leave your contract and not have service with o2 moving forward?

Could I not pay the remainder off but then allow the contract to run the rest of it's course? If not, then yes, cancel the contract after paying off

There is little benefit to paying it off, canceling then starting another as you are effectively paying for two.

What I would recommend is making a payment to cover all your bills to the end of the contract. This would shut as a credit on your account and each month the credit would reduce as each bill is raised. Assuming no additional call charges etc you should have a zero balance at the end of the contract.

Reading George's initial post he says the contract is in his Mums name so surely it is only her who can settle the account? If he wants to give her the cash to do this I would think thats fine?

I actually commend him for wanting to get this sorted. Shows a great deal of maturity actually. Good for him.

The current contract is not in the OP's name. The only person who can cancel the contract is the OP's mother.

Agreed. However why don't you get it paid off and get a cheaper tariff on a sim only? Paying off a refresh tariff/device plan is easy slight_smile

Another point. Why don't you get your mum to sign the contract over to you and have it in your name?
