Pre-ordered the Apple watch with EE, worst mistake as o2 won't help me at all...

Long story short, I preordered the Apple Watch series 4 last week. Of course, o2 do not stock the Apple watch, so I had to order it from EE.

A little while after I preordered, I realise that the ESIM in the cellular Apple Watch, has to be on the same network as your iPhone for it to work (when your phone isn't nearby). Ok, great but my phone is on o2 so I guess i'll have to adapt since o2 dont support the watch.

My o2 contract still has a year left on it, so there's no way that i can stop paying for the contract without paying off the device. So, in order to use my Apple Watch for it's intended purpose, I have to use an EE sim in my iPhone and pay both contracts...

OK, I guess I have no choice, i'm not paying off my entire contract with o2 all at once just so I can use a watch...

Id really love to keep my own mobile number that I have had with o2 for almost ten years, so I call up and explain how I am forced to use an EE sim with my Apple watch and I asked if I could simply swap the numbers out or just get my PAK code, but continue to pay my contract with o2 on a different number which I would use for business. I didn't want to move away from o2, but I have no choice now I have commited to the watch purchase.

The guy offers me sympathy and does a very good job at dealing with the situaton but tells me that I cannot get my PAK code without paying the rest of the device off. What? I only want the damn number, i'm happy to continue paying for my contract, and keep both of my device plans with o2 but now I am forced to leave just so I can use an Apple Watch?!

One is due for an upgrade so they could have easily have had another three years out of me, but now I have no choice but to move on even though I'd much rather be with o2 than EE.

Is it just me or is someone missing a trick here?! Is there really no way I can keep my number?

@fearlessandsun Porting your number to another network cancels your O2 contract and you will have to pay the remainder. There's no way around that. It's in your terms and conditions.
