Hi

I just found out that it has cost me 30p to send a picture message to a mate.

Now I don't care about the money but surely it's data and therefore comes under my data plan?!

Cheers

We have had a lot of complaints about this recently but it is down to texts being converted to MMS ...An explanation here

Including smilies and emoticons can be a cause of this also

Sadly no, it doesn't come off your data as the tech is so old it runs on the old wap system.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Any photos sent by me are always by email or BBM and if possible over wifi.

What about group texts? More than 5 counts as MMS or so I believe. Also as I said previously adding smilies or emoticons to a text will convert it to MMS. If a text is longer than 460 characters....it will convert to MMS

You will always be charged for sending a pic via MMS. It is an outdated way of doing it now, and slow.

Either e-mail it, or use apps like Whatsapp, Viber, Kik, OOvoo, BBM etc etc.

Surely its only a matter of time before MMS die off? With the likes of Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger, why pay to send an mms

Be interesting to see if texts are slowly declining. I send very few now instead just use IM apps
