Phoning from Portugal to Canada.

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I have tried to phone home to Canada from Portugal, but I have been unsuccessful.  I bought an Archos 55b Platinum at Gatwick.  I also purchased a 02 Pay as You Go SIM card.    I have also tried texting but to avail.    When I phone, I get a Network Busy notice (I am registered on TMN 3G).

I have been using the 00 01 250 1234 calling format which I understand from the Web is the correct format for phoning Canada from the UK.

So, am I doing it right? Is the network really busy or is it me.   All help is gratefully accepted!

Thanks

Try dropping the 00 and use + instead

okay, I was too happy too soon.

I was able to phone myself once!   I have not had any subsequent success.

I am guessing, but I suspect that the phone system works a bit like the internet system and that smaller suppliers purchase bandwidth from larger suppliers  (akin to Tier One ISPs).    Can anyone enlighten me on this?

Does anyone know where 02 is in the pecking order for transatlantic telephony?  I am beginning to suspect that the O2 system does not have a lot of access to the transatlantic system.

I am not sure how to access the + on the phone.  Is it the same as a single zero (0)?

Sometimes pressing 00 quickly gets replaced with. + symbol.
