Phone Upgrade when in Sim Only Contract

Hi,

My phone is on its last legs, so I'd like to upgrade, but I'm in a sim only contract until January 2021.

I can't find anywhere that says I would be able to roll the contract over to a new phone?

I don't want to be in a position where I'm paying a device plan with a usage/data plan attached... and also paying for the sim only data plan?

Does anyone have any ideas how this could/would work? Or am I better off just waiting another 8/9 months until I am out of contract and can upgrade (and hope that my phone lasts that long!).

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

'Ness

@LochNess

You can upgrade to refresh from a SIM only at anytime.

There is no need to wait or pay off the simo contract. Just upgrade and your new device and tariff will take effect immediately.

@LochNess

If you don't want a Refresh contract then you can either buy a cheaper unlocked phone from Amazon or Tesco and keep the sim only plan running.

Some places like John Lewis allow monthly repayments if you can't afford outright.

Or stick with the one you have and hope for the best.

Hope that helps and welcome to the forum.

:slight_smile: Thanks Cleoriff.

I don't mind being on a Refresh contract, but I assume that's not what I'm on now, so I'll be tied into this (luckily cheap) one until Jan 2021.

It's just a bit frustrating that there's banners all over the place on my MyO2 homepage saying that I can upgrade now... When in actual fact, I can't, unless I want to be paying for two contracts!

*Sigh*. I just want A) a phone whose battery lasts longer than 2 hours and B) a shiny new toy!

Thanks for the advice RE: Amazon etc.... I shall check them out now.

I got my Note 8 from Amazon. Make sure the seller has a good rating.

Oh awesome! That would explain why it was showing me the 'upgrade now' banners then.

I wish they wouldn't call it a contract or put a 12 month term on it in that case; it makes it needlessly confusing!

Time to make a decision on which phone then... Hmmm.

Thank you so much, really appreciate the advice. :slight_smile:
