Received a text from "O2:UK" after a few calls earlier in the day from a number claiming to be O2, using automated voice messages to tell me my phone bill is overdue.
The text I received quoted my full name, O2 account number and the amount overdue on my phone bill - all correct - therefore I thought it was genuine and without thinking, paid the bill using my credit card. Stupid, I know. I'm usually wiser to these things but it looked very genuine and the fact it had all my correct information had me fooled 😞
I realised the link looked dodgy so I googled the number and realised lots of people were reporting it as a scam. I logged into my O2 account and sure enough, my phone bill was still unpaid.
The number that called me was 0330 123 9245
Has this happened to anyone else from these same scammers, and is there anything I can do to get my money back? And how do they know my account information?
Thanks in advance!

It is a genuine O2 number.
Your online account will take a while to update after you've paid.

According to O2 on Twitter, it isn't them.

Hi @roseburke_
I really hope that it was o2 .
Perhaps you would be kind enough to let us know, that it was all ok or not. That would be very helpful.
Many best wishes and welcome to the o2 community forum.....TallTrees

But also, according to O2 on Twitter, it is them. They really need to sort out their comms.

I know this is an old post, but it comes up high in results when searching for this number.

I nearly got caught by this and made the first mistake but, thankfully, not the second. 😞 I received a cold call from 0330 390 4123 claiming to be from O2 and sending me a one-time password to my phone (which they know, since they just called it), asking me to tell them what it was. DO NOT GIVE THEM THE CODE! THIS IS A SCAM! What they are trying to do is use the "Forgotten password" feature on the O2 web site, which sends you an OTP to your phone, which, if you give it to them enables them to change your password and then your billing address and buy stuff on your account (e.g. a nice new iPhone) and have it sent to them at your expense. DO NOT engage with any such calls, and NEVER give an OTP or security question answer over the phone! If you do make this mistake, immediately call the O2 fraud team directly (using 202 or by logging on to o2.cu.uk) and get them to change your security question! Luckily, I managed to call the fraud team before they managed to do anything.
