Seemed genuine, but it's a scam.

@Amd4317, @Mmmartin There have been many reports of scam text messages of late. Please take a look at this:

Reporting a scam email, text or call

Some scams might pretend to be from O2, or from an organisation you already deal with. It's important that we see examples of phishing emails, texts and websites so we can investigate and shut down scammers. To report a suspicious email, text or website:

forward the text message, including phone number or company name, to 7726. It won’t cost you anything and it means we can investigate the sender
As well as reporting the scam text, block the number and any other numbers that arrive with a similar text:

@Amd4317 @Mmmartin

Pleased you came here first. There are many who wont, thinking they are genuine.

These scam texts are affecting a few other networks as well as O2.

If you follow the advice given by @Bambino ie sending the texts to 7726, it will help them to work out where the texts are originating from and hopefully put a stop to these spammers.

They have only one aim, to gain access to your account details.

Best of luck and welcome to the forum Welcome

Unfortunately the first 5 digits of your phone number indicate what network you are on - and is publicy available on the internet (assuming you haven't ported your number from another network) - so if they have your number by some nefarious means or via a hack somewhere it's very easy for them to tailor the scam text to make it appear convincing. Remember genuine texts from O2 do appear as from O2 not a mobile number - but either way always approach any text communication with a degree of caution

There have literally been dozens reported on here in the last few days. They must be rolling the message out in their thousands.
