I had a passing thought today, whether it be possible to pay off the final cost of my handset through a credit card and still keep paying the remaining cost of my airtime tariff as normal. My reasoning is purely academical and this would suit me better. O2 get their money and I own the handset quicker.
Another thing I am not wising to upgrade at the moment, it's just I want t fasttrack the payment process. I'm not sure if O2 will allow me to do this though.

I suppose I just don't want be to paying for the phone next year, when it's going to be relatively older technology. The plan I had was pay off about a year by direct debit and settle the other half via credit card. If I put some money by now, I can save enough to cover the other half next year.
You know, it is 6 and half a dozen really although it would be one less monkey on my back.

You would be able to pay off the remaining period of your contract (if not on refresh) but that would effectively be airtime too and you would need to take out a SIM free contract, so not really worth it unless near the end.
