If you were going to block your own phone so you couldn't use it while you were abroad why bother even taking the phone with you? The easiest way to do that would be to make sure the phone is unlocked, take out the UK sim and use a local one. Job done.

So simple really. Why would you take a phone abroad, cancel a direct debit knowing that you would have to make a payment whilst there.
Pay online or through the My O2 app.
