I ordered my new phone a month ago and a week later I got a text to tell me it was out of stock and I would get a text to let me know further details on when I can expect it. I still haven’t heard anything about a rough estimated delivery date, or anything. I’m really not happy because I need to know when to cancel the current contract for my current phone.

o2 are struggling to get stock (as are a number of other retailers).
You can try calling them to ask when they think they will get stock:
Advice from an O2 Guru regarding a way to get through:

If you call 202, when it comes to the reason you are calling stay silent for 15 seconds and you will be taken to the keypad options.

Press 2 for Everything Else

Press 5 for More Options

Press 7 for Anything Else which will put you though to an advisor.

Press Upgrade, Lost/Stolen or Fraud if you have to.

Yet another disappointed customer

I don't put the blame on O2 for lack of phones

I do however put a MASSIVE fault on O2 for the continued lack of a live stock system
