Hi all,
I requested O2 unlock my phone via the online form and over the phone on more than one occassion and I continuously receive the same response other than the one received this evening via email, as follows;
'We are really sorry that we have not provided you with the network
unlatching code you requested.
As per our findings, the handset was not bought from O2 directly due to
which we are unable to find the details in our database.
In order to further investigate, Could you please confirm the Original
purchase order number and original mobile phone number so that we can
check from where exactly the handset was bought. Because if we gives you
an unlatching code and the handset is non O2, the unlatching code
provided may not work which may lead to codes supplied not working or
locking your phone. Also if its an non o2 handset, you need to approach
the supplier for the unlatching code who in turn will provide the code
for unlocking the phone.'
Now I dont have the origina order, phone was purchased at Tescos on a 2 year deal.
Paid monthly DD to O2 ever since, phone has O2 sim inside it and remains unlocked.
I have provided them now with my account number and the only mobile number the phone as ever had.
I have also reminded them of their legal obligation.
Anyone else had this type of experience and if so what did you do to resolve?
Thanks
Neil

Not sure of the suspiscious nature of your post but to clarify the phone was on an O2 contract - not tesco.
DD were to O2, I have an O2 account number.
I don't know which post you're referring to, but I don't think any of my comments were suspicious. I think you need to do as MI5 suggests and provide the CSC number. As far as I am aware, buying a phone from Tesco, even if it was on an O2 contract, would be the same as buying the phone from Carphone Warehouse, i.e.,a third party seller. The phone itself was not purchased directly from O2. Therefore, it's not an O2 phone. That's my take on it. If I'm wrong, I'm more than happy to admit it.

As you can imagine its all a bit confusing! So essentially, I can walk into Tescos, pick up a phone with an O2 contract, but the phone is provided by Tesco who would be the company to unlock it......(it is locked - I've tried a couple of sims without any success).
As for the 'suspicious nature' comment - I was merely referring to your suspicion I wouldnt respond to the thread......not sure why you would think that!
anyways, appreciate all the assistance offered,
