O2 to O2 upgrade SIM only

Just upgraded O2 iPhone XR monthly contract at 23.5 months to a SIM only offer via uswitch/TCB, keeping handset.

Logged in as upgrading current contract, it recognised it all, all looks good. Eg £24 quid down to £8 new contract. Confirmation received, but says despatching new SIM.

Will this switch over automatically on the account and can I continue to use existing physical SIM? I.e. no PAC involved.

Unfortunately, I said yes to the 5G SIM it's despatching. It's an XR not an iPhone 12 or 13.

Is this academic as I won't need to switch to new physical SIM?

Or will I need to call O2 and get them to allocate existing SIM card to new deal?

Or will I need them to re-send a new non 5G SIM out to use?

Probably a non issue but thanks.

@PaulaC1

Just leave your current SIM in the phone as everything will be updated on that SIM.

Keep the new 5g SIM as a spare.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)
