@Adam3 You are still responsible for paying what you owe, but if you sell the phone you can just pay off the remainder of what you owe from the sale, cancel the air time part, and be done with it. Nothing really. As long as you fulfil your contractual commitments, O2 will have no interest in what you have done with the phone.
