My remaining amount I have to pay off on my contract on my iPhone 7 is £540. If I take the 25% off it will leave me with £405. Is the £405 added onto my new contract if I was to get the “iPhone X” or is that my remaining amount once I’ve refreshed

It's what you have to pay upfront to be able to upgrade.
It cannot be added to your next contract.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

There again you could sell the phone and put it towards the cost of upgrading. In the true sense it's not actually yours to sell but I won't tell anyone....

In all honesty this is what I do - or rather I pay the remaining off out of my savings then sell the phone and put it back into my savings.
