If you pay off the handset then you can take out out a sim only contract.

Can I use refresh to pay off the handset or is this something I would have to pay myself ?

You pay the device off fully yourself.

You can then choose a sim only tariff.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

When I open 'upgrade' page it only shows options to refresh with phones and other devices. Will a sim only option show up after I pay the current phone off? Or should it be available now? My current contract will end in less than a month.
Thanks in advance!

You need to choose the sim only tab.

Thank you!

This is what my upgrade looks like. Missing SIM only tariffs. Any idea why?

May not be available until your upgrade date if coming from a standard contract.
