O2 refresh - changing handset only

Anonymous
Not applicable

I want to swap my iPhone 5c and get an iPhone 5s instead. I'm on O2 refresh and it says i can change phones whenever i want and keep my tariff which is what I want to do. How much will it cost me to keep everything but change to an iPhone 5s? I've had my 5c since 11th December 2013 which is when my refresh contract started and I only want to change phones and keep everything else (tariff, insurance etc)

Thanks

The figure you are looking for will be in your phone plan section of myO2. On there it should say the remaining balance to pay. As you are only two months into your phone plan expect this to be rather high although you could sell your 5C to go some way towards raising the required funds

The 5S is vastly superior to the 5C although as others have said you are kinda mid release cycle now so think whether you will want to upgrade onto the 6 when that comes out. If the answer is yes you are probably as well holding on to the 5C for the time being and holding out for the 6 by which point your refresh buyout will be a lot lower than it is now

If you look in my O2 it will show you how much you will need to pay to pay the handset off then look at the 5s but to be honest I think it's going to be very expensive

Hi,

heed what @Anonymous says !

Can I ask why you want to swap from the iPhone 5c to the iPhone 5s ?

Take into account the iPhone 6 should be released later this year too.

Once you have paid off the 5c you will have to take a new contract (albeit the same as current one) to get the 5s.
The cost is the amount outstanding on your phone plan, so as an example, if your phone is £20 a month and you have 18 months left it will be £360.
The new contract will then have to be taken at the current rates available in the shop which for a 16gb 5s is shown here https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/refreshTariffs/apple/iphone-5s-16gb-space-grey/

Its a shame o2's t&c for Refresh state you cannot dispose of the hardware until you have paid the plan up or one could sell the 5c and buy the 5s as @davethorp  says, from somewhere like cex for example.

That's true about the T&Cs although in practice I doubt O2 would notice or do anything if the handset was disposed of shortly before the phone plan was cleared.

Not that I would advocate or suggest doing anything that is against the T&Cs

Lol, me too.

O2 can tell what phone your currently using and if so wanted could bring the stipulation into force, although I've not seen a thread from someone stating they ever have !

People change handsets for various reasons thus proving its been sold on before the plan was paid up would not be an easy one for O2.
