O2 offers definite credit check pass

Anonymous

O2 this week began to offer new customers a guaranteed credit check pass in store when they connect to contract. O2’s new deal means customers applying for a monthly contract with handset that fails the vetting process will, instead, be able to connect to SIM-only deals, which do not include a free handset and has no fixed contract length.
Customers will be able to take SIM-only deals for a minimum of six months, without a deposit to pay. Provided all billing is up to date and on time, they will be able to upgrade to 18-24-month deals with a handset.

My question is, I was declined for a phone just over 3 weeks ago, would I have to go in apply for an 18 month contract to be declined and offered a guaranteed pass for sim only

or would o2 be able to look up my old declined application and set me up with sim only

thanks

Im hoping maybe someone in store can help you out with this one.

Funny, I work for O2 and have NEVER heard of this! You have to pass credit checks for sim only deals too so that is a little strange. :womanindifferent:

my credit record is completely clean, no defaults, and i've been declined for a contract and not offered sim only despite being told it's a guaranteed pass

O2 do the credit checks with Equifax I believe. It honestly doesn't give us any information other then what risk you are, if you want to look into your credit check then you would have to contact Equifax. If you google them it should come up with their details.

I understand that and my credit file is clean

but why are o2 offering this where if you're declined an 18 month contract you're offered sim only but instead of 30 days notice, it's 6 months contract

3 people in the o2 shop confirmed that if i'm declined i'm guaranteed sim only but it wasn't even offered

No idea, thats something you would have to take up with the store, as I said I have never heard of that offer so it might be something that is retail only?

The sim only tariffs are changing so shortly they will be on longer term lengths as well as the 1 month minimum, as of Saturday the new 2009 tariffs are coming in (they are pretty damn good!) and there is one for a sim only on 12 months.

This is crazy, there was a announcement on Mobilenewscwp.co.uk which is the industry trade website and the store staff know nothing about it.

I went into the Rugby store today and was declined a contract phone even though I am with O2 Broadband and have been for 14 months, my credit files with Equifax and Experian are clean. I was offered nothing and when i mentioned this so called "white flag" pass I was told that the stores knew nothing about it.

I am going to escalate this with Matthew Keys office, in case anyone wants his email address for general complaints or to actually get something done, then ask on this forum.

Thanks

Its not a 6 month contract, you just have to stay on it for 6 months if you want to upgrade to a handset deal, you're still free to cancel as normal.

I think that the quote in the OP is very misleading. The system will only offer it to you if you're credit file isn't "too" bad, i.e if you've got loads of CCJ's and defaults on there then you wont be offered it at all, however if you have a few little things like most of us do then you will either be offered the choice to place a bond down to have an 18m contract, or go on simo for 6 months before being given a handset tariff.

With regards to the 6 months mentioned, I don't think they mean 6-month contract, but rather that you will have to stay in a SIM-only account for 6 months - this way O2 will create a little credit history for you, see if you pay the bills in time and all, and then revise their credit score for you and give you a proper 18-month contract .(you=any customer for whom the above is relevant)
