O2 contract on Moto G 4G

Hi there

Sorry to bump old threads again but I can't seem to start one - why is that btw?

Anyway, on to the real issue.  I was originally thinking about getting an iPhone 4s but I'm settling on the idea of the Moto G or Moto G 4G.  Have a couple of queries and was wondering whether anyone could advise.

1. 4G isn't a factor - i won't be getting 4G on my tariff.

2.  I understand the only differences between the G and G 4G is a SD card slot and 4G capability and that everything else is the same.  I've never put an SD card into a phone and I don't imagine I ever will.

So, the question is basically this:  on o2 itself I can get 300 minutes/300G data (enough for me) for £15 p/m with a £39.99 upfront cost for the G 4G.  On Carphone Warehouse I can get the same allowances for the same price on the G without any upfront cost.  I assume there's no obvious (or otherwise) reason for me to spend that extra £39.99 on the newer model?

Also, one further thing that muddies the issue is that Tesco have the 16GB version with higher allowances for the same price (possibly cheaper).  Is that worth considering - as in, is Tesco a reliable mobile operator, etc?

Cheers if anyone responds

Hi

You can only get a refresh tariff with taking it out through O2 so your not locked into a 2 year deal

If that's not a deal breaker them take out the contract where you get the better deal for your needs.

Tesco works off O2 network.

I'd suggest going to the high street to play with both demo models.

A Sd card is a good idea to store data or use something like Dropbox which is an online vault.

On refresh.

Two payments.

One for airtime.

One for handset.

You can at any point pay off the handset cost and walk away so your not locked in.

I'd suggest using a Payg O2 SIM card first too to ensure you get good signal.

To add the comparisons are here.

Moto G ~ http://m.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g-5831.php

Moto G 4 G ~ http://m.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g_4g-6355.php

You may not want 4G or SD features now but you may in the future. Just a thought.

Thanks for all that

Yes, I take the point about futureproofing, etc, but I'm still not sure, especially on the 4G.  It's not in my area at the minute - Northern Ireland.  The SD card slot could come in handy maybe.  I'm not overly concerned about the refresh option as I don't see my data usage, etc changing that much over the two years, but....

The one other thing that does slightly make me want to stick with o2 itself is the continuity, etc.  I had a problem with my previous phone and I was happy with how it was resolved.

Will mull it over, cheers

You're very welcome.

As you say it's down to your usage pattern and wants and needs.

Interesting, thanks. I was assuming it was post count-related or something

Hi

Again no worries.

No , nothing to do with post counts etc.

Are you able to start a new thread now ?

If not PM Toby or MarinaP and they will be able to help as O2 site management.

One other factor (you've not mentioned it so I assume doesn't apply) is that any discounts a customer is eligible for (Open Code or Friends and Family for example) can only be claimed if you buy directly from O2 and not via CPW or Tesco etc....
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
