Look this argument is going nowhere here, the bottom line is your choice, either accept it and get on with your life or cancel your contract by paying it off, which will cost you the full outstanding balance to which the increase will be added.

Considering all the other networks have done this and in one case twice it seems foolish for you to waste that much money.

what's the big deal with regards to 5.3 and O2's RPI claim?

If you don't like it and want out, just ignore 5.3 and find your 'Material Detriment'.

With a little bit of ground work, 'Material Detriment' is your 'get-out-of-jail-free' card.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2012/oct/18/ofcom-investigate-price-rises-fixed-mobile-phone-contrac...

Under current Ofcom rules, firms are required to give a minimum of one month's notice of any change to their terms that is likely to be of "Material Detriment", in which case customers must be able to walk away from their contract without penalty

While everyone may think they are bound by their contract. The fact remains, your contract can't replace common existing legislation.

Find and explain your "Material Detriment" and your network must allow you to leave without penalty. Hopefully, this will all be made a lot easier later this year when we find out how Offcom is going to deal with the practice of selling 'fixed' deals.

Good luck slight_smile
