I am currently spending a few months in Spain - before I left I popped into my local O2 shop to confirm that if I turned mobile data off and just used my flat's WiFi there would be no £1.66 daily O2 travel charge. They confirmed that this would be the case. Unfortunately - I have now just checked my recent usage, and lo and behold I have been charged £1.66 plus VAT for every day I have been here.
Can anybody confirm whether this is correct or have I been given incorrect advice?

I have WiFi in my apartment in Spain @Anonymous and data roaming /mobile data is always off on my tablet and phone. As mentioned by @MI5 Tugo used over WiFi is the way to go. I don't make any calls or send texts if I am out of range of any wifi and this is available in every bar or restaurant I use. It just takes some organisation before you go abroad. I don't incur any charges normally...
