If you have upgraded, you use your old sim, or do a sim swap to use the new one Guide: Sim Swap: a mini guide 2017 update 

If you are porting in from another network it is 48 hours https://www.o2.co.uk/help/device-and-sim-support/how-to-keep-your-mobile-number
