Number porting

A quick (I hope!) question about porting my number from Three to O2 - the port is supposed to go ahead tomorrow and the text from O2 told me to keep my phone turned off until 6PM.  I'm still using my Three SIM so I don't have to worry about call forwarding or giving anyone a new number so can I leave my phone turned on until the Three SIM goes to no service and then swap to the O2 SIM or do I really to turn off the phone all day?  I'm on a SIM only contract so no new phone.

Thanks in advance and apologies if this has been answered elsewhere - I did try to search but couldn't find the answer.

As soon as your Three sim goes no service just put your O2 sim in the phone.
It will usually take between 2 and 4 hours for the o2 sim to become active - rebooting phone every now and then helps.
