Number Porting

So I have 4 months left on my current contract with another provider, but would like to take out the unlimited plus sim only deal o2 have at the minute, So is the a time limit as to when I can port my number over? 

So if I was to take a Sim only out now and let o2 give me a number on it, could I in 4 months get the PAC from three and give it o2 to replace the number they have given me now?

Yes, I have done a few times, you just give o2 the PAC code at the time, and your number ports over.. 

You will need to pay o2 from day 1 of the new contract, so basically running 2 contracts
