Do you mean you are now paying 2 payments instead of one?.....that would mean you are now on a refresh contract as you pay for the tariff and phone separately so 2 direct debits so this would be correct. The new sim is most probably blank and not required but to confirm you need to call o2 just to make sure you upgraded.

So you didnt upgrade ...you took out a 2nd contract.

To resolve you need to cancel your original contract and request o2 migrate your original number to the newer contract.

@Mic1 You need to cancel your old contract Guide: Cancelling Your Contract

Sorry to say if you now have 2 contracts you certainly didnt do the upgrade properly hence why your now paying for 2 contracts.

Best bet would be to call o2, explain the error and they may give you goodwill but you will need to cancel the old contract asap. If you need the number from the old contract then they should be able to migrate the number from the old to the new.

@Mic1

The 'contract was up' means nothing. Unless you chose to UPGRADE, your old contract would continue to roll on.

At contract end you have 3 choices

1) Do nothing and let the old contract roll on with airtime only, month after month

2) Choose to upgrade which ends your old contact and allows you to take a sim only or new contract with phone

3) Cancel your contract and walk away, or move to another network.

So all things considered, you obviously took out a new contract instead of UPGRADING.

So more info is revealed.

As said @Mic1  you really need to contact O2 to find out what's going on.

All numbers posted above.
