Absolutely no service in NW London area. Anyone have any idea how long this going to go for seeing as O2 "GURU" are not able to tell me how long the problem will take to fix but told me about three hours ago that it would be resolved SOON. The "Guru" then told me that if I wasn't happy could call a number to discuss with someone else. It was then that I pointed out again that the reason for my grievance was that I could not make or receive calls.

Check here for your area : http://status.o2.co.uk/ and keep turning your phone off and on to help reset it.
02 do not provide personal updates so the best way to keep checking is the link.
If this goes on for more than a couple of weeks then it would be reasonable to request some form of reduction on your monthly contract fee for that period.
Either phone them on 202 or complete the complaint online form.

O2 won't want the mast down for longer than necessary so will get it fixed as soon as they can.
They can't give you a time until it's fixed I'm afraid.
