No 4G roaming in New York

I've just been to New York. My friend on EE had 4G but I only had 3G. O2 Guru on chat has told me that O2 only delivers 3G in the US. Is this correct?

I had 4G in Barcelona back in February, and ironically the average download speed was higher than in London lol.
