New iPhone; can I just swap the SIM?

I've bought a new iPhone 12 Pro MAX to replace my iPhone 6s.

I'm currently on Pay Monthly; can I just put my existing SIM into my new handset and carry on? I believe that the two handsets take the same (nano) SIM

TIA

@LloydD

Your current sim won't get you 5g so if you are in a 5g area or travel to one, you need to do a sim swap to activate your new 5g sim.
