New SIM card

I received a new SIM card a couple of weeks ago, inserted it into an old phone and have not been able to make or receive calls or texts since; how do you activate the SIM

Normally you would do a sim swap but I notice you say you put it in an old phone?

if the old phone still has a sim then you activate it by doing a sim swap, from old sim to new Guide: Sim Swap: a mini guide 2017 update
