Hi I switched today to the sim only deal and was advised to switch on the day my old contract finished by your staff instore but have been told today that I have to pay another month bill £24.80. Why when I will be no longer using that data ?

You don't. Your billing date will stay the same and the difference between your old contract and the new one will be taken off your next bill.
