My account was debited for compensation for network issues in Dec 2018!

I spotted a £1 debit from my Credit card account on 13/1/19 from O2. When I phoned to find out what it was the nice O2 chap said that it was a credit for compensation (data outage in December)... 10% of £10 per month. I thought I must have been mistaken, but when I read my statement again, it is definitely a debit...!

Has anyone else had money TAKEN OFF their card instead of credited for this? It kind of adds insult to injury... but for a quid it's not really worth the hassle of picking up the phone again.

I just thought I'd check if I'm the only one. Thanks

Hi everyone, mystery solved!!

After much detective work, and a couple of calls from helpful lady at O2 I've found out what the story is with this rogue £1 nerd

Coincidentally around the same time as receiving the "we've credited your O2 account with £1", my partner made a purchase which needed age verification to view the website (parental controls). O2 take credit card details to check you're over 18, and make a charge to check. They are meant to refund the money back in straight away, as it's only a verification check, not a purchase. On this occasion, the gremlins must've been busy as no refund materialised... Shocked

Soooo the helpful lady at O2 is going to credit the next phone bill with £1, and we can all sleep easy again Happy Dance

No, mine was definitely a credit.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Hi @confuseddotcom, have you checked how it appears in your My O2 account as well?

Hi Marjo, on the MyO2 web interface it has credited £1 to the account, however on my credit card bill it's a debit. For a quid I can't really be bothered to call the credit card company etc, but I thought I would see if any one else had this issue in case it was a bigger deal.

@confuseddotcom

If it appears with a minus in front of it ie -£1.00 then that actually is a credit from O2.

I know that's confusing. It took me ages to work that out wink

PS... Apologies. Just read your post about how it appeared on your credit card...Banana

Hey @confuseddotcom, haven't seen this on our end, but happy to check for you just in case to clarify what this charge could be about.

Below is the quick info around the compensation for each in case helpful - I'm assuming you're on Pay as you go? I'll drop you a PM here on the forum shortly to get a few additional details and we'll get someone to have a look for you. slight_smile

- For our Pay Monthly customers, SMB business customers and mobile broadband customers we will be crediting two days of monthly airtime subscription charges
- For our Pay As You Go customers we will be giving a 10% credit on a top-up
- For our Pay As You Go mobile broadband customers we will be giving a 10% discount on a Bolt On purchase

Well the minus sign never confused me as I'm sure I've seen it elsewhere in the past. Though I agree with you @TallTrees it's not normal accounting practice.
