I currently have a sim only contract with O2 for 6 months . I'm now a mature student and realise I can get 20% Off With O2 refresh tariff Can I change to refresh tarrif instead of a normal upgrade with new phone which I am eligible for.

Yes, you should be able to upgrade to a full refresh tariff.

Check your upgrade path in your MyO2 http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2
