Recently purchased i-phone but not able to access mobile data roaming even though access and password are entered...??

You're most likely on the wrong data tariff.
Call customer services and ask them to put you on data for iPhone http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus
If you are roaming now you can change your apn to "mobile.o2.co.uk" and if that works it's definitely a tariff issue.
