Does anyone else think it's theft when our host chooses to turn off mobiles which have credit still left on, irrespective of duration between usages

Not at all. It's a hell of a long period of time before they switch it off. If you haven't used it by then it seems only fair to take the number back into the pool.

There's only so many numbers that can be given out before we run out.

However it would be nice to be given a note of credit I guess.

It must be mentioned in the T&Cs somewhere which should of been read.

O2 don't do that for at least 6 months, have you tried calling and asking for a refund?
