Loss of O2 network on WI-FI.

Hi, anyone else having a problem with O2 network when using a WI-FI connection?

Any time I connect to WI-FI, be it at home, work or out and about, I get a message saying "O2 network unavailable" and there is no signal on my mobile. This happens within a couple of minutes of connecting to WI-FI, and the phone will be without a network connection untill I disconnect from WI-FI. Have missed a few calls because of this, but using WI-FI is the only way I can get decent internet access where I am (no3G and 2G not good at times).

Not a handset problem I don't think, as the same happened with my previous phone a couple of weeks ago.

This could be due to the Wi-fi sleep policy on the phone and/or the router turning it off.

Wi-fi Analyzer app can check if you're using the best router channel, many are set to auto and change channels at random.

Changing the router Wi-fi encryption can also make a difference, ie WPA, WPA2 or WPA+WPA2.

Thanks perksie, not a router problem as it happens at various locations on different routers. Can you explain a bit more about WI-FI sleep policy on the phone? Not something I'm familiar with. Samsung Galaxy S3 by the way, if it makes any difference.

Re: Loss of O2 network on WI-FI.

On mine, not an S3, I go to Settings> Wireless&Networks> Wi-fi Settings> Advanced (from the Menu button)> Wi-fi sleep policy, and adjust to Never.

I hope that's similar to yours.

Re: Loss of O2 network on WI-FI.

Thanks perskie, just had a look and it is set to "Always". Will try setting to "Never", but it does say that that will increase my data usage, so might not leave it on that.

Interesting to see if it solves the probem though.

Your data usage on wi-fi is free so that shouldn't be a problem, it's only the mobile network data that you pay for.
