Looking to join O2 - any advice?

Anonymous

Hi All,

Looking to join O2 and will be porting my number from existing supplier.

I am interested in a 4g package with either a Samsung Galaxy Alpha or S5.

Does anyone have experience of a similar package?

I am particularly interested in knowing :

  • How long the porting took?
  • 4G coverage (I live in South West London)
  • Helpfulness of staff in the shop
  • Any problems with the phone?
  • Quality of voice calls
  • Any aftersales issues?

Regards,

P.

Hi All,

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I forgot to mention that I had tried out a PAYG SIM. Unfortunately my current phone is 3G only; hence the question about 4G.

O2 appears to be the network that works the best inside my house, so seems an obvious choice; however due to the nature of my work I am often in different locations so cannot really do an extensive check on this before buying.

I have tried using an MVNO (re-seller) before, granted they are cheaper; however their customer service is usually terrible. I would rather pay a little more to get better support.

Any feedback on customer service would be appreciated.

Marks out of 10 would be fine.

Regards,

P.

Always been a 10 for me, but some have reported issues.
Overall O2 usually comes out best in Ofcom surveys.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

8/10 in my experience on the phone.

7/10 via online live chat but as I know what to ask and how to direct the question I usually get to what I need. As they are non uk outsourced callcentres they can lose things in translation.

4G speeds in my experience are fast but it obviously depends where you are and how many people are accessing the service.

If O2 is the strongest network where you are then you should go with them.

Everyone has a personal experience with O2 and mine is maybe 2 out of 10 (took 7 days to port my number in, had a faulty sim card, absolutely no 3G coverage within a 30 mile radius of my address even though the coverage checker says otherwise and experience of very rude customer service).

RootMetrics UK is an independent company that measures network performance. They have shown EE is clearly the stronger network in general.......wish i had seen it before choosing O2!!
