Locating my phone

Anonymous
Not applicable

Here's a question. I've got a few phones on contract with O2, all in my name. Suppose I misplaced one of them, do o2 offer any service that would help me locate the phone or see it's location on a map? I visit several offices a day and rather than having to go through hassle of canceling a phone, blocking the IMEI etc, I'd rather just have a way of locating it.

Any ideas?

Both Samsung and sony send a text to a pre set number with a pre set text in the case of sim card replacement.
Samsungs dive allows you to send an alarm command so everytime the phone is back on, the alarm is on at full volume until you disable it on the site.

Great stuff. It's good to see companies taking security seriously.

Indubitably true. Samsung S21 Ultra and Xiaomi 14 Ultra

Totally agree anticpated

Another feature by Apple is Activation Lock ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5818 ) where if someone does find / steal an iPhone it won't accept another Sim Card without passwords.

Slightly off topic but connected to Security ->

Another 'must' in my eyes is Sim Card Pin to stop unauthorised use ,and phone handset style pin locks too.

I have four android devices all of which have Sim pin and screen lock and  can be located, locked and erased from any of the other devices. All are protected with Lookout too. It makes sense these days with sensitive info we have in the phones and the threat of thieves running up big bills.

I use lookout, but lots of similar apps are available. They can try and locate your phone via GPS, you can send texts to your phone with certain key words to get it to wipe itself, and you can make it 'scream' (ie emit a high pitched sound to locate where you've left it / who's thieving pocket it's in)
