I have been sent a letter from O2 claiming I owe them £44 from three years ago and that this debt has now been sold to a debt collection agency, Lowell. This is the first I have heard of this debt, it doesn't appear anywhere in my account and I've never received any communications about it. Although this letter has my correct name and address, the account number and mobile number on the letter are not the same as mine. Has anyone else had a similar issue? I've sent an email to the O2 complaints service but I have doubts it will be resolved easily and I fear this will be effecting my credit score.

You need to deal with Lowell now as O2 have been paid off by them.
If it appears on your credit score, you need to add a notice of correction to your credit file.
This will put doubt into the validity of the default and the credit agencies will be forced to question O2 / Lowell about it.
