Leaving o2 - upgrade to 30 day sim to leave early?

Hi all - I've been on a 12 month rolling SIM-only contract for almost 3 years and in February upgraded my data plan to 50gb, unaware that this meant I was signed up to another 12 months (originally my contract would've ended this month). I called up today and asked it I could cancel as I am planning to leave O2 and they've said I'll need to pay up until February 2019. However my account says I can upgrade now - so is there anything to stop me from "upgrading" to a 30 day plan and then cancelling once the 30 days is up? Seems like a bizarre system if that would work but I can't see anything that says it won't...

Any help appreciated!

Choose the 30 day SIM and see what happens.
It will tell you if there are any charges or other changes before you confirm.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

This is the checkout page - doesn't say anything about extra charges - not sure what to do! I've been on the contract for 3 years and only ended up being locked into an additional 12 months because I increased my data allowance (I looked back and can't see that it said anything about that locking me into a longer contract). So it seems really unfair for them to charge me!

@Laura94 Well it says you have 14 days to cancel, so I guess you have nothing to lose. You'll just need to keep an eye on things, and if there's a problem you'll need to contact customer service. https://www.o2.co.uk/contactus Don't rely on Live Chat. Call and speak to someone if you need to.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

it may be wrth risking but I would choose another tariff. 250MB is next to nothing and as @Bambino says, you have 14 days to cancel.

If it doesn't say you have to pay cancellation fees you don't have to.
