Yes, you can upgrade your phone in store and keep the same number, no problem.

if you wish to upgrade to a contract via O2 directly you will be put on to what's known as O2 Refresh

If you upgrade through Carphone Warehouse you won't have any of the benefits of O2 Refresh. CPW will put you on a standard 24 month contract
