Keeping old number, 4G & contract renewal

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi I recently recieved a text from O2 stating that my contract was up for renewal but upon checking the My O2 website found that my contract ended on 26/02/2014, should I have recieved a text five months ago? and also will not renewing for so long affect my choices for renewal?

Also was wondering if when I do upgrade to a different phone, if I pick a 4G tariff and handset will I be able to keep my old number? (I'm currently on 3G)

Thanks.

Hi @Anonymous

Your contract will have continued on to a 30 day rolling contract. People don't always get a text message when their minimum term is up but it won't affect your renewal options at all.

You will be able to choose whatever phone and tariff suits your needs, if you want a handset with 4G then you can take that choice dependent on how much you want to spend.

You can keep your number by doing a sim swap online once you get your phone and new sim.

Also have a look at the independents such as CPW. You can upgrade through them although they aren't able to offer Refresh contracts.

Hello Alp98 and Welcome to the Forum,

As said it's up to you to manage your account. Sometimes when a person is coming close to contract end either O2 or one of their Trusted partners cold call you via your mobile number.

When they send you the upgrade phone it also comes with the correct sized sim. If your sim is the same size then all you need do is pop it in the new phone. If it's a different size then as said a Sim Swap moves your mobile number and new tariff over onto the new SIM card. This takes from a few minutes to approx 24 hours to complete.

Turning the phone off and on throughout the process helps the re connection. If your unsure of performing the sim swap yourself your local O2 Store will do this for you.

4G is not available everywhere yet so I'd suggest you check here via your full post code http://status.o2.co.uk/ and look here http://www.o2.co.uk/4g/coverage-and-cities

You will be able to use a 4G Tariff on 3G but the download speeds will differ.

If you want the Refresh a deal where you can effectively pay up the handset cost and walk away from the contract then you'll have to go through O2.

CPW cannot offer these tariffs.

Do look at other Network deals as sometimes O2 Retentions will try to match these.

Upgrading in-store brings some advantages occasionally as accessory deals can come into play ie: haggle for a case etc slight_smile ,and you walk out with the phone. No waiting in for delivery or follow on e mail saying it's gone out of stock. (This does happen on occasion)

Enjoy.
