Keeping old 02 pay as you go number on new o2 pay monthly sim

Hi. My dad has changed from o2 pay as you go to new pay monthly sim only. He wants to keep his old number. How do I do this? Every advice I've seen says a pac code if you are moving from abother network but he's not. It's the same network would this still work?
