Invalid sim - reasons

Hi,

I woke up one morning this week to an alert of 'sim failure' on my phone and then it has said invalid sim ever since. I spoke to o2 on Wednesday and they have sent a replacement sim out to me. Apart from feeling like my left hand has been removed, the inconvenience this has caused is massive - I use that phone as an authenticator to log on to my work network and emails, and to access my one drive. I still haven't received the replacement so I've called them today and have requested some sort of refund for the almost 7 days that I will have gone without being able to use the device, given that I'm going to be billed for it regardless, but I've been told that the sim wouldn't have just failed like that and it must've been something that I did so they can't offer me anything?! I've requested they speak to someone who can and am awaiting a return call but I just wanted to ask if it is feasible that it has just failed?! It hasn't been dropped recently and I haven't taken the sim out for anything. It is a very old phone though - iphone 6. The sim must be about 5 years old.

Just looking for a bit of perspective I guess!

Thanks in advance slight_smile

Have  you tried cleaning the sim card @Allys

It's possible that it has become dislodged or a build up of static on the contacts

Are you able to try the sim in another phone?

@Allys

O2 wont call you I'm afraid.

After 5 years of constant use, it's more than likely that the sim has failed.

You need to speak to O2 again. Ask for a replacement sim

All numbers are in this guide. Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support

Advice from an O2 Guru regarding a way to get through:

When you call, you will be asked for the reason you are calling,

Stay silent for 15 seconds and you will be taken to the keypad options.

Press 2 for Everything Else

Press 5 for More Options

Press 7 for Anything Else which will put you though to an advisor.

Press Upgrade, Lost/Stolen or Fraud if you have to.

8am is the best time to call

Edit, spelling.

Yeah I spoke to someone on Wednesday and he said that it could've just snuffed it given how old it is, but I've called today and asked for a refund and the person I spoke to said they couldn't offer me one because the sim won't have just failed for no reason so it must've been something that I had done.

There is already (apparantly) a replacement sim on its way, I was just trying to decide how much effort to put in to getting this refund but I'm reassured now that it's feasible it could have just failed due to age so I'm doubling down. grin

Thanks!
