International Call Rates for O2 Unlimited

I am on the Pay and Go  O2 Unlimited tariff which  appears to offer international calls  from as low as 1p per minute if I ring from my mobile to an overseas landline.

I made a 5 minute call to Ireland last night and was expecting to pay 5p as indicated by the advertised call rate to Ireland   I was shocked to find that the charge was £7.43.

Are there some conditions I need to adhere to in order to get the cheap rates that O2 advertise?

Yours truly,

Killimor

Check your tariff, I'm sure there are none that include international calls.

I login to O2.

I go to My Mobile.

I to to My O2 account summary. It says I am O2 Unlimited.

I click on View Details Of My Tariff.

I click on Calling Plan Details.

I scroll down to International calls and texts from UK and hit on the Click here button.

I choose Ireland and it reports that a landline call is 1p per minute.

So, why am I not getting that rate.

Yours truly,

Killimor

Sorry to say it but it would appear that an "international sim" is required for those prices. You have to top up £15 a month to activate.

I am on the O2 Unlimited tafiff.  This is exactly the same as the International Sim:

So why do I not get the discounted rates that O2 advertises?

Yours truly,

Nowhere is it stated on the O2 website, that the O2 Unlimited tariff or International Sim (which are both the same) require a monthly payment of £15 per month in order to make cheap international calls

(However the tariff does offer unlimited UK O2 to O2 calls/texts if you top up with £15 per month.  But that is totally distinct and separate from wanting to make international calls).

So how do O2 Pay and Go customers get the advertised international call rates on the O2 Unlimited tariff or International sim?

Yours truly,

Killimor

O2 Unlimted and International SIM are one and the same. In order to get the international discounts you have to do an initial top-up. Once the initial top-up has been made then you should immediately get your international discounts. If that's still not happening then you'll need to call Customer Service

mff69, thank you for your reply.

What don't understand is whether or not after the intial top-up , I can continue to get international discounts until my credit runs out or what?

I have rung Customer Service and they cannot give me a clear answer. One guy says I need to top up every month. Another guy says I need to top up every 90 days. And yet another says my account needs to send/receive a call or text within 6 months.

I do not know why I am getting so much conflicting advice.

Maybe someone can give a definitive answer.

Killimor.
