International Bolt On Calls

I purchased the International Bolt on for £3.
This states that calls to the USA will be charged at 2p/min.

I called my friend for a total of 4:10:15 and I’ve been charged £350+ which indicates I’ve been charged £1.40/min instead.

I’ve spoken to O2 live chat for help and assistance and at first they said it’s because I have made the call whilst on holiday. I said I was at home so they checked and confirmed the call was made in GB.
They then said oh it’s actually because the calls were made on a special number and that’s not covered in the Bolt on.

I used my standard Pay Monthly personal phone number to make the call. And my friend has a standard American number. Neither of these are special or premium numbers.

So confused and do not have the funds available to pay a £350 bill when it’s O2s mistake!!

Was it a FaceTime/video call or a standard voice call?

@BD1234 If you ever do decide to call your friend in the US again, both of you should download and install WhatsApp. If you call using a WiFi connection, it will cost you Zero. That's Nothing. Nil. Zilch. Nada. Nought. Zip. A goose egg. You can also text, send photos, and have video calls for free too. All of it secure and encrypted. I'm not quite sure why anyone would bother with a bolt-on. It's a no-brainer.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

You can add Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams and Google Hangouts to the advice that @Bambino has given to you. 👍

Good luck with Google Hangouts:

In April 2021, Google Chat indeed became free as an "Early Access" service, for users who choose to use it instead of Hangouts. On June 27, 2022, Google officially announced they would be shutting down Google Hangouts on November 1, 2022 and migrating all users to Google Chat.

and there is Google Meet now, not that I have used it often - GChat if I'm sending a quick link to someone on a Chromebook, otherwise WhatsApp on phone or on WhatsApp Web on PC, @Oxonian.
