I need a new mobile number - I get too much spam

Hi, I'm an ex VM customer. In the past month it seems that my number has been sold to some dodgy company. For each number I block and report, they return with another. Since I answered and asked to be removed from their list the volume has reduced, but not by much, it has just stopped coming from 020 or 07 (UK) numbers, now they are pretending to be foreign numbers - South Africa, Australia, etc. When I searched +61720048570 who called me? | who-called.co.uk It seems it might be VM who sold my number when they sold me out to O2 😞

They claimed to be VM, but as I challenged them and told them I am no longer a VM customer they got a bit testy. Now they hang up on me, so I just continue blocking & reporting each time they call, and get a new number calling me a few times a day 😞

How do I get a new number? I don't want one, but they don't want to leave me alone.

It might not seem much, but it is very annoying. With VM, about 10 years ago I just called 789 and asked for a new number, and got one the next day (they even waived the express delivery fee!). This virtual assistant just keeps trying to sell me a phone, I don't think it understands. Like most AI, it's not very I 😞

Any help or suggestions, please?

I've got the opposite where spammers regularly spoof my number so I get genuine people ringing me over a missed call. Sadly it's in a very memorable series and if you put the first 4 digits into a search it comes up as possible spam. So I guess there are a lot of us plagued like that.

One of the joys of a creaking telecom system

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.
