I fell for the 40% discount scam

Hi all

 

I was painting and mind was really occupied. I answered the phone, where the girl claimed to be from 02 and offered a 40% discount.

 

Using the usual tactics, she took over my account and ordered the new iphone. My tariff was also changed. When i started to get all the emails, i then realised i had been scammed.

 

I called O2 (202) and told them what happened. They completed some form and submitted to the fraud dept. Apparently, this'll take 14 days to resolve. In the meantime, i can see a huge device plan credit 😞

 

I also got some text messages from DPD saying the phone would be delivered today. This didnt happen and when I click on the DPD link, it says the parcel is on its way back to O2 (so  i am hoping O2 have intercepted the phone)

 

Anyone have any experience on this? Or any direct number for the fraud dept, so i can check the progress?

 

And YES, i should have been more careful - i get that.

@Yousuf Unfortunately this happens constantly. General rule of thumb is to never agree to anything from anyone from a cold call, no matter who they say they are. Why anyone still does remains a mystery, after all that's been said and written about it. There is no direct number for the fraud department.

Inform your bank and change all your passwords. ALL OF THEM. FOR EVERYTHING!

Report the incident to the police: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

Hi yep - this happened to me In June. The phone arrived at my house so I could not understand the scam. I was able to get it sent back and most charges cancelled. However, I was told the O2 fraud team would call me in 30 days. I was called today and guess what...yep I have just spotted another phone has been ordered but not delivered to my house rather, one 2.5 hours away. I am hoping I have intercepted it and I have reported it. I am going to report it to the police in the morning  for a crime reference number

This scam is still going on, I had 4 calls today from various numbers but what concerns me is that they had personal information.  I've related all the details to O2 fraud team on the email address above.   They are cheeky because while on the call they send texts with codes which come from O2 UK rather than O2UK (the space is a subtle way of tricking you).   Passwords changed just to be on the safe side and keeping any eye for any weird activity.

Since being moved from Virgin Mobile, I have had scam calls almost 2 a day evryday. I keep blocking the numbers but still getting them. I may need to move providers.

This has happened to me today, they obviously somehow got all my details from O2 as they knew everthing about me and my bill, two phone numbers, address etc. It is scary how good these people are and i am always very cautious. Not today 😞

Luckily i listened to my instinct and i phoned 202, the guy helped me change password and security question (as the fraudster has reset my password), hopefully thats the end of it.
